From Plain to Pullman: Giving the Royal Scotsman a Fresh New Look

We recently headed back to Arlington Fleet Services to apply the exterior graphics to two Royal Scotsman coaches, helping transform them from freshly painted shells into the iconic luxury carriages they're destined to become. Arlington carries out specialist refurbishment work on heritage and luxury rolling stock, making it the perfect setting for a project like this.



The first photos show the coaches before we got started – sanded back, graphics removed, looking a little sorry for itself. Fresh coats of paint were expertly applied, and then we were called in – time to get to work!


With plenty of careful measuring, positioning and teamwork (plus the occasional step back to admire our handiwork!), the graphics gradually brought each coach to life. It's always satisfying to watch the transformation happen panel by panel.


By the end of the installation, the coaches were looking every bit as elegant as you'd expect from the legendary Royal Scotsman. It's amazing what a difference a set of precisely applied graphics can make.
